Managed staffing programs for Michigan warehouses and plants

Managed staffing for Michigan warehouses and plants places an entire year on one calendar: core staff for the shifts you operate weekly, recurring schedules that bring on staff prior to each busy period and an analysis after each season. RHO Hiring manages the program while your management team runs production. Phone (248) 843-0000.

What is a managed staffing program?

A managed staffing program is an ongoing, year-round staffing plan for your temporary workforce that RHO executes based on agreed-upon targets. It makes sense to request workers one requisition at a time if you are only staffing a few employees occasionally. But if your facility uses temporary workers year-round (and the busy seasons roll around each year), starting from scratch each season forces late recruiting and overtime costs.

We begin by understanding how your operation functions: departments, shifts, production volumes and annual peaks, whether it's the holidays, a production push during the summer months or even a harvest. We work with you to identify the program objectives. For example: what core head count is needed per shift, how many additional workers each peak requires and when they begin, how far in advance orders are placed and how attendance issues are addressed. Then RHO executes: leading recruitment prior to each peak, safety training and job-specific onboarding prior to the first shift, scheduling, monitoring attendance, call-off coverage and finding replacements.

Peak plans repeat each season. The top performers from last season are invited back first. Start dates and head count are planned using the previous year's numbers. Ramp-downs are strategically planned like ramp-ups. We review each peak with you. We go over attendance, fill, turnover and overtime reports and tweak the plan for the next peak. See our how-to on planning for Q4 and other seasonal peaks.

A program leverages the rest of RHO's workforce management as necessary: the workforce software for schedules, time and timesheets, RHO supervisors working busy shifts and an on-site account team for larger programs. RHO is locally owned. Together with our partners we cover 48 large facilities in Michigan. Our owners work directly with clients, so there are people behind each program who can make decisions.

What does RHO run in a managed staffing program?

  • A plan for the year

Base head count per shift and department, along with your peaks, based off of your volume and adjusted as it shifts.

  • Recurring peak plans

A plan for each busy season in advance: how many workers, which jobs they'll tackle and when they'll start.

  • Recruiting ahead of demand

Workers screened for reliability and attention to detail, then scouted and recruited before the season peaks.

  • Returning workers

Top performing workers from last season are invited back first, so each peak starts with returning workers who know your site.

  • Preparation before day one

Safety training and job-specific onboarding prior to their first shift, at no cost to workers.

  • Scheduling and attendance

Work schedules, attendance reports and cover for call-offs and no-shows, tracked in RHO's workforce software system.

  • Payroll and paperwork

RHO hires and pays each worker in the program and maintains employment records.

  • Season reviews

Attendance, fill, turnover and overtime reports after each peak to improve planning for the next one.

How a managed program can be set up

Mix them as your floor needs. Your manager sets it up with you.

  1. 1A core crew all year

You have a dedicated crew working your regular shifts while RHO manages attendance and replacements.

  2. 2Recurring peak plans

Seasonal workers scheduled ahead of time for each season you are aware of, then scaled back after the season concludes.

  3. 3Single site or several

Can cover one location or multiple locations, run as one program under one RHO management team.

  4. 4With people on site

You get RHO shift supervisors and an account team right at your facility for larger programs.

Signs it's time for a managed program

  • Every peak starts with a scramble for workers
  • The same busy season catches you short year after year
  • You order temporary workers every week and still come up short
  • Each shift or department orders workers its own way
  • Overtime keeps covering gaps that better planning would close

Managed staffing questions

Don’t see yours? Call 248-843-0000 and a manager will answer it.

How is a managed program different from regular temporary staffing?

Traditional temporary staffing means you place an order and RHO delivers. A managed program means RHO plans and runs your entire temporary workforce with you. This includes annual head count and peak forecasting, attendance, replacements and reporting, all against mutually agreed-upon goals.

How is it different from seasonal staffing?

Seasonal staffing covers a peak when you need it. A managed program plans for the entire year: a core crew, a repeatable schedule for each upcoming peak you can anticipate and a post-mortem following each peak so that you start each season more prepared than before.

How is a managed program priced?

Labor is charged by the hour worked and is priced by job type, shift and volume. Program scope such as on-site management, supervision and reporting is included in the proposal. We don't price until we understand your facility, and you review the detailed proposal before any services are performed. See what's included in a staffing rate for the hourly explanation.

Who directs the workers on the floor?

Your supervisors manage the work. RHO manages the people aspects: recruiting, scheduling, attendance, training and replacements. For larger programs, RHO shift supervisors manage the RHO team within the plan your supervisors have created, and an account team on-site manages check-in and coverage.

Who handles payroll in a managed staffing program?

RHO. All workers in the program are on the RHO payroll and paid by RHO. You will receive a single invoice for your team's approved hours.

Can we start small?

Yes. You can begin with one shift, one department or one peak and expand when both sides see it working. Your manager can recommend where to begin.
