Our staffing agency screening process, and how we match workers to Michigan sites

Our staffing agency screening process checks that each worker is dependable and detail-oriented before their first assignment. Each potential worker goes through an application, interview, work history and reference check, skill-related questions, and a safety orientation. RHO Hiring then places the right worker with your job, your shift and your site. Give us a call at (248) 843-0000 to place your order.

What does a staffing agency screen workers for?

RHO screens first for reliability and attention to detail. These are the two qualities that determine most warehouse or production floor placements. A worker who shows up on time for every shift and does the work carefully is more valuable to a supervisor than one who doesn't, regardless of how long their resume is.

Skills are important as well, and they matter tremendously for certain positions, such as forklift drivers, machine operators and quality inspectors. But first we address the habits that help a line stay running: showing up, being punctual, following directions and catching errors before product ships.

What are the five screening steps before a first assignment?

Every worker goes through the same steps before a first assignment.

  1. 01

    The application

Employees inform us what job they would like to do, which shifts are suitable for them to work, how far they are willing to travel and their previous experience.

  2. 02

    An interview

Interview with one of our team members, at our Southfield location by appointment or via phone. Previous jobs will be discussed along with the type of work they are seeking and how they deal with the undesirable tasks of a job.

  3. 03

    Work history and references

We review where they have worked and what their job duties were and we call the references they provide.

  4. 04

    Skills questions

Job-specific questions: what types of forklifts have you driven, what machines you have operated, how to read a pick ticket or use a measuring device.

  5. 05

    Safety orientation

Before any assignment, workers receive safety training: how to report hazards and injuries, personal protective equipment worn, and that no one runs equipment they are not trained and authorized for.

How RHO Hiring matches a worker to your shift and site

Matching is when screening really pays off. We look at your order from our worker's side as well.

  • The shift

If we have someone who we know can reliably make a 6 a.m. start, second shift or weekend hours, then that employee is assigned to that shift, rather than shoehorned into it.

  • The trip

Distance the worker travels to your site and mode of transportation, because a hard commute means late starts and call-offs.

  • The work

The speed, the lifting, the hours standing and the conditions, such as a hot plant or cold dock, matched to the previous experience of the worker.

  • Your equipment

Familiarity with the types of trucks, equipment, scanners or tools your site operates.

  • Your site rules

Donning and doffing PPE, sanitation protocols on food processing lines, gowning for cleanrooms, and the rules cannabis facilities set, all explained before day one.

  • Room to grow

Temp-to-hire staffing orders are filled with individuals seeking permanent employment, so the ones who earn the permanent position stay.

Tell us about your site's requirements

Each site has specific requirements. Some need particular protection, experience with equipment, or paperwork and orientation from the site before a worker can access the site. Inform RHO of any site requirements at the time of order and we will clearly communicate to you what we can and can't provide.

Information equals a good match. A tour of your floor, a job description copy or ten minutes with your shift supervisor will all help.

Questions about screening and matching

What if a worker isn't a good fit?

Notify your RHO manager the same day. We will discuss the situation with you and the employee. We will then attempt to find someone else to cover your shift if the match was incorrect.

Can we ask for a worker back?

Yes. If someone performed well, request them by name for the next shift or next season. If they're available, we'll schedule around that.

Can we interview workers before they start?

Definitely for temp-to-hire and direct hire, and we recommend it. For last-minute temporary shifts, let us know what is most important for the job and we'll align to that.

Do you match workers on age, sex or other personal traits?

No. We match on skills, reliability, availability and the requirements of the job. RHO is an equal opportunity employer, and we don't fill requests based on race, sex, age or any other protected trait. Our equal opportunity commitment sets out the rest.
