What do packers and fulfillment workers do?

Packaging and fulfillment workers build kits and displays, label and seal cartons and check counts and weights. They pack orders and products to your standards and keep packaging lines fed and cleared. In food plants they pack product on lines, often in cold rooms and under strict hygiene rules. Packaging is where mistakes show up to your customer: the wrong item, a short count, a crushed box or a label that won't scan.

The job can be repetitive and routine. The best packers are those who are still precise during hour seven. RHO Hiring screens employees for dependability and attention to detail. We train them in safety before they arrive on site and orient them to your site rules, including the hygiene, clothing and food safety requirements your facility sets. We learn your production flow, product mix and volume before we schedule so the people we send will fit your pace.

Volume swings daily and seasonally in e-commerce and fulfillment centers. Shifts are usually 8-10 hours, but there are evening shifts to make shipping cutoffs, weekend shifts during busy weeks and extra shifts during the fall-through-holiday crunch. RHO staffs them all. We have recurring plans for the busy seasons and our article on peak season staffing will teach you how to create one of those.

Packer staffing questions

Don’t see yours? Call 248-843-0000 and a manager will answer it.

Can you staff packers for a food plant?

Yes. In fact food production is one industry we staff. Tell us about your plant's hygiene, clothing and food safety rules. We will prepare workers to follow them before their first shift; your plant can train them on how those rules apply to your specific procedures.

How is packaging staffing priced?

Billing is based on an hourly rate which covers the cost of paying the worker, the costs of employing them and our recruiting and management costs. Your shift, overtime requirements, head count requirements and length of assignment all play into the rate. You are given a quote prior to anyone beginning.

Can you help with a one-time repack or relabel project?

Yes. We staff short projects just like any other temporary job. Provide us with the quantity, the deadline and the work involved and we will work up a crew count and shifts with you.

How fast can packers start?

Packing jobs tend to be some of the fastest jobs we fill. You will be contacted by a manager, typically within a couple of hours. We will provide you with a realistic start date based on head count and shift needs.

What if a packer doesn't work out?

Inform your RHO manager. We will investigate and if appropriate, terminate the assignment and replace them with someone more suitable.

Can we hire packers permanently?

Yes. Packers have the option to convert to temp-to-hire or move onto your payroll as outlined in your agreement with RHO.
