What do auto suppliers need from a staffing agency?

Automotive suppliers want employees that hold the pace of the line and adhere to quality standards every shift. One late or rejected shipment can take a customer's line down. Detroit is built on a vast network of car suppliers. Automotive stamping, machining, molding and assembly plants in Oakland, Wayne and Macomb counties supply parts to the Big Three assembly plants, often just in time. Learn how plants at each supplier tier staff up for that pressure in our guide to automotive manufacturing staffing.

Automotive work pays off for hands that find a rhythm and pay attention. Assemblers repeat tasks with the cadence of the line, working beside robots and mechanical devices. Inspectors test pieces to a standard and reject what falls short. Parts handlers keep components flowing to the correct station and in the correct sequence. RHO screens employees for reliability and attention to detail, then prepares them for production-line etiquette, basic equipment familiarity and the quality standards they'll be expected to uphold.

Quality issues create their own demand. When a defect is discovered, a supplier may need a team to sort and inspect parts at its facility or a warehouse. Sometimes the work starts the very next shift. RHO provides quality control and inspection staff to do that work and your quality team trains them on the defect and criteria.

Volume shifts with the model year. Launches, changeovers, overtime schedules and downtime all affect how many workers a plant will require. Because RHO's recurring staffing plans are built around those cycles, a plant can build up for a launch and scale down afterwards without starting from scratch each time.

What makes automotive hiring hard?

  • Quality you answer for

If a defect makes it to your customer, it can result in containment, a chargeback or a lost program. Employees must follow the work instruction each time.

  • Pace and precision together

Line jobs require someone who can maintain tempo for an entire shift without sacrificing fit, count or labeling.

  • Short notice

Sorting and containment projects, schedule changes and overtime often come up with a day's notice or less.

  • Changing volume

Launches, model changeovers and slow periods mean headcount rarely stays the same for long.

Automotive staffing questions

Can you supply sorters for a containment on short notice?

Call as soon as you know. You'll typically receive a call back from a manager within a couple of hours. We will be honest with you about how many people we can allocate and when they can be available. Your QC team will train the sorters on the defect and criteria.

Do you staff Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers?

Yes. We staff auto parts plants throughout Metro Detroit regardless of where they are in the supply chain. This includes the warehouses and 3PLs that transport their parts as well. Since the automakers' quality standards flow down to every tier, we prepare employees to meet them no matter where the plant is in the chain.

Can your workers run the machines in our plant?

We staff machine operators and machine assistants on your equipment. Inform us of the machines operated and tasks performed by the operator at the station. Your plant gives the operator job training at the station, using its own equipment.

Can you help with a model launch?

Yes. Provide us with your launch schedule and headcount requirement and we will develop a staffing plan that ramps people up for the launch and tapers off following the launch. The earlier we start the better, because it takes weeks to recruit additional people and the workers will need quality training from you before the line is running at full speed.

Who should an auto supplier call for staffing in Metro Detroit?

Find an automotive staffing agency that takes the time to learn your line and your quality standards before assigning staff. RHO Hiring works with auto parts facilities all over Oakland, Wayne and Macomb counties. We also staff factories, warehouses, food plants and cannabis facilities throughout Michigan. A manager will usually return your call within a couple of hours.
