What does factory work ask of a new hire?

Factory work demands that a new hire maintain the pace of the line doing repetitive tasks, working around heavy equipment, in seasonal temperatures and under safety regulations allowing no shortcuts. This is difficult to appreciate from an office. If a new hire isn't prepared for it, they are likely to quit in week one and the line suffers.

RHO begins with the facility. We learn your production process, shifts, requisite skills per position, and output needs. Then we assign the appropriate workers to them. Entry level labor to move materials and pack, machine operators to fill jobs requiring experience, and assemblers who can keep pace and follow directions.

Before they show up, we prepare workers for what to expect from you: rudimentary safety awareness, the PPE your plant mandates, how the line works and production-floor etiquette (walk in the marked walkways, never touch anything you haven't been shown). That way your trainers can focus on training them about your process. See our factory hiring guide for how to plan for the roles and the first week on the floor.

Automobiles aren't the only thing keeping Michigan manufacturing wheels turning. Manufacturers throughout Metro Detroit produce metal components, plastics, packaging, food products and machinery. Some of these products go into cars, some don't. RHO recruits and staffs them throughout Oakland, Wayne and Macomb counties and beyond, creating recurring staffing plans that maintain a consistent team through new contracts, seasonal ramp-ups and downtimes.

Why are factory positions hard to keep filled?

  • Early turnover

New employees leave when a job turns out to be harder, hotter or faster than they expected. Helping them prepare before day one will retain more of them after the first week.

  • Skills for specific machines

Some jobs require operators who are experienced with a press, CNC machine or packaging line. Some positions require workers who can learn one easily.

  • Safety from the first minute

Workers have to follow guarding, lockout tags, PPE requirements and walkway markings from day one, without anyone having to remind them.

  • Shifts that never stop

Plants that operate on two or three shifts, weekends and overtime require employees that will show up for those less desirable shifts as well.

Why Michigan manufacturers staff their plants with RHO Hiring

  • We learn the process first

We inquire about the product, line, skill sets for each position and your shifts before sending anyone. We build headcount from your production goals. Call (248) 843-0000 to receive a quick quote.

  • Prepared before they arrive

Employees receive rudimentary safety training and your plant's expectations prior to their initial shift, so they show up knowing what to wear and what the job involves.

  • Problems fixed fast

A dedicated RHO management team remains on the account and resolves issues quickly. Owners actually deal with clients themselves. As Vadym Makovey puts it, 'We, as owners, come in and work directly with our clients.'

Manufacturing staffing questions

Do you supply experienced machine operators for our plant?

Yes. Describe the machines and materials involved and what the operator is responsible for at their station, and we will find people that have experience with it or are quick studies, whatever the position requires.

What safety preparation do your workers get before they start?

Employees receive generic safety training before day one: PPE, walkways, standing away from running or locked-out equipment and reporting hazards. Then your facility provides the site and task training that only you can provide. Our worker safety and training page outlines who does what.

Can you staff our second and third shifts?

Yes. This includes day, night and weekend shifts, overtime and high-volume days. We schedule a core crew for the undesirable shifts and backup fill-ins for when someone calls off. Employees know the shift times and conditions before they accept the job.

Can we hire your factory workers permanently?

Yes. Temp-to-hire allows you to hire employees based on their performance during the assignment. With direct hire recruiting, you fill positions on your own payroll from the start. Learn how temp, temp-to-hire and direct hire compare for each opening.

Who should a Michigan plant call for manufacturing staffing?

Contact a manufacturing staffing agency that takes the time to learn your process prior to delivering staff. RHO Hiring inquires about your product, your line and the skills needed for each position. We prepare workers for your floor and maintain a dedicated management team on your account. You can typically expect a call back from a manager within a couple of hours.
