What does a warehouse associate do?

A warehouse associate picks orders from the correct locations, scans and counts accurately, adheres to your packing standards, stages shipments by route or carrier and loads trucks so the dock keeps flowing. A warehouse is a nonstop cycle of movement, deadlines and inventory systems that function correctly only if each employee follows them. The work can be physical and repetitive, rewarding those who are both diligent and fast.

RHO Hiring takes into consideration your specific warehouse. We look at the configuration, volume, shifts, equipment and systems that your associates will be using (handheld scanners, pick lists, etc.). Associates are prescreened for dependability, accuracy and following inventory procedures. They are also trained on safety prior to day one and told what to expect when they arrive at your facility. This means less time bringing them on board on the warehouse floor.

Shift lengths are usually 8 to 10 hours. There are early starts for outbound shipments, evening shifts for order cutoffs and overnight shifts for restocking, plus weekends and extra hours during peak season. We cover them all. We also have recurring staffing plans for holiday peaks and high-volume days. Learn more in our guide to staffing a warehouse: positions, shifts, peak season and safety.

  • Accuracy and speed

Pickers are screened for reliability and detail orientation, since a quick wrong pick costs more than a slow right one.

  • Prepared for your procedures

We brief workers on your warehouse's expectations prior to arrival, cutting down onboarding time on the floor.

Warehouse staffing questions

Don’t see yours? Call 248-843-0000 and a manager will answer it.

How fast can you send warehouse associates?

Warehouse positions are some of the fastest positions to fill, but it depends on the head count needed, shift and requirements for the job. A manager will reply to you, typically within a couple of hours, and we'll be able to give you an estimated start date when we take your order.

How is warehouse staffing priced?

Billing is based on an hourly rate which covers the cost of paying the worker, the costs of employing them and our recruiting and management costs. Your shift, overtime requirements, head count requirements and length of assignment all play into the rate. You are given a quote prior to anyone beginning.

Can your associates use our scanners and warehouse system?

We inquire about scanner and warehouse experience during our matching process, and send candidates with that experience when you require it. Each warehouse is slightly different, so your site shows workers its specific screens and processes on day one. Giving us a heads up about them allows us to coach them beforehand.

Do warehouse associates drive forklifts?

Not as associates. Forklift duties are distinct from other labor because OSHA mandates that the employer provide training and evaluation of each forklift driver. If you are in need of forklift operators, please inquire about our forklift operator staffing services.

What if an associate doesn't work out?

Report it to your RHO manager. We will investigate, terminate the assignment if appropriate and replace them with someone better suited.

Can we hire associates permanently?

Yes. You may have associates transition to temp-to-hire or to your payroll based on your agreement with RHO. Often associates who prove accurate and reliable are the ones warehouses go on to make leads.
