How does staffing work at a large industrial facility?

Staffing at a large facility operates like its own program: multiple departments require staff at the same time, each with their own manager, shift schedules and priorities. Production crews, material handlers, shipping and receiving, and the janitorial and other support staff surrounding them are all pulling from the same pool. When you run as many positions as a large site does, absences compound quickly and a hole in one department can bottleneck another.

Combined with our partners, RHO provides service to 48 large facilities, and we currently have over 200 commercial customers. Through this experience we learned you need structure with a big account. We learn every department's flow, shifts and volume, set headcount by department and shift and assign a dedicated management team to the account to keep it filled.

Large sites also generate large one-time demands. A scheduled shutdown, a line installation, a physical inventory or a move from one building to another may require a sizable crew for several days or weeks. Those projects go smoother when scheduled weeks in advance and staffed by individuals who have been prepared for the site's safety procedures prior to arrival.

Our office is located in Southfield. We service primarily Oakland, Wayne and Macomb counties, but fill positions at facilities all over Michigan.

What does a large facility need from a staffing agency?

  • Many departments, one standard

Production, warehouse and support departments each require the right staff, but the facility needs each managed uniformly.

  • Absences at scale

If you operate multiple positions across multiple shifts, call-offs occur daily and someone needs to cover for them prior to shift start.

  • Safety rules for everyone

Sites that are bigger have very specific safety guidelines, PPE requirements and orientations. Every worker must complete them before setting foot on the floor, in addition to the safety training each worker takes before their first shift.

  • Big one-time jobs

Shutdowns, inventories and moves require a large crew for a short period of time without taking people away from the regular schedule.

Industrial staffing questions

How many workers can RHO supply for a large facility?

It really depends on the positions, shifts and timing involved. RHO has over 100 workers placed throughout Michigan and works with its partners to serve 48 large facilities. Give us a shout and let us know what you are looking for and we will honestly tell you what we can staff and how quickly.

Can you staff a planned shutdown or line installation?

Yes. Provide us the dates, work and crew size as soon as possible and we'll work out recruiting, safety prep and shift schedules with you. We release the project crew when the job is completed, without pulling people off your normal schedule.

Can you manage staffing for several departments at once?

Yes. A managed staffing program can include multiple departments or an entire site, under one plan with one management team responsible for it. In cases where a crew requires its own lead, we have on-site supervisors from our team who can run it shift by shift.

What does industrial staffing cover at a large facility?

Industrial staffing includes staff to work at a large facility on every shift for production, material handling, shipping and receiving, cleanup and support positions. It can also include one-time crews to work on shutdowns, line installations, inventories and moves. Workers can be placed on temporary, temp-to-hire or direct hire terms.

Who should we call for industrial staffing at a large Michigan site?

Contact an industrial staffing agency that can run staffing for the entire facility as one program. RHO Hiring is located in Southfield, predominantly serves Oakland, Wayne and Macomb counties and services facilities all over Michigan. A manager usually returns your call within a couple of hours. We welcome you to visit our office by appointment, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
